Construction Updates
Our current focus is to build and furnish our residential Hospice. A 10 bedroom hospice will be located on a treed property adjacent to Valley Regional Hospital.

The interior of the hospice is a beehive of activity. The crew are working hard to finish in time for a spring opening. While most of the progress is on the inside, the exterior is now getting covered with siding giving our hospice a fresh new look.

Contractors are aiming to get most of the exterior work done before winter sets in.The new walkways really spruce up the grounds around our hospice. In coming weeks/months there may be less evidence of progress from the outside, but there is plenty of activity on the interior. Inside you can start to really visualize the layout of the rooms.

This photo gives a new view from the inside of our hospice. Valley Hospice framing is going up. The visible trees through the skylight over what will be the kitchen island show how the building nestles into the trees.

Over the past month there has been lots happening on the construction site of the Hospice.
In this overhead view of the hospice taken by Jamie Roberson operating his drone camera you can see the “birdlike” design emerging among the trees. It was interesting to witness the exactitude and skill in the placing of a beautifully designed roof truss system. Off in the distance you can see the North Mountain.

Now that spring is here we’re seeing lots of progress on the construction site for the Hospice.
On May 5 we took our Hike for Hospice past the site. All the underground piping and footings were completed and waterlines and fire hydrant installed. Today we were so excited to see the framing of the exterior walls in the bedrooms.
We’re on track for completion by December 2019.
December 4, 2018 … a muddy day for photos!
The November winter weather has not stopped the progress of the Hospice. Since the groundbreaking ceremony the site has taken on the look of a construction site. Fencing is up, construction shelter has moved in along with some heavy equipment. The site has been brought down to grade and they are ready to excavate for the footings.

The designs and construction documents for the Hospice are now finalized and approved. The province has released a tender for the construction of the Hospice. It is scheduled to close on. The clearing of the land started on September 12, 2018 and is revealing a beautiful site for our Hospice to be built on a knoll overlooking Brooklyn Street and the Town of Kentville.
A hospice is more than a building – it is a philosophy – it is a community of care for the dying and the living.
As we work toward the opening of our hospice, we enter a new chapter of supporting enhancements that will ensure the best care possible for our community.
- Enhancing clinical care of patients with specialized equipment and therapies,
- Supporting hospice palliative care volunteer development and grief and bereavement programs,
- Enhancing the Hospice setting for family and patient comfort,
- Creating a learning “Hub” for families and patients, professional staff and the community
