Position: Fund Development & Communications Coordinator
Job Type: Permanent Part-Time/ 0.6 FTE/ 22.5 hours per week. Hybrid with remote/work from home and some in-office hours.
Compensation and Benefits: $22.00 hourly. Successful candidate may be eligible for our health and dental benefits package.

Preamble:
Valley Hospice Foundation (VHF) is a vital community partner in hospice and community palliative care in the Annapolis Valley. The Foundation is an independent registered charity that is led by a committed Board of Directors who work collaboratively with the Nova Scotia Health’s Hospice and Community Palliative Care Service teams and other community stakeholders to ensure that the palliative care needs throughout the Annapolis Valley are met – be it at home, in hospice, hospital or other care settings.
In 2020 the 10-bedroom hospice residence was established on the grounds near Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville NS. This marked a bold achievement for the Foundation and for the legions of donors and volunteers who supported the project. The Valley Hospice Foundation has now transitioned to ensuring that hospice and palliative care continues to be well supported in the Annapolis Valley.
As the Foundation’s mandate continues to grow, we are recruiting for a qualified individual to lead our fund-raising efforts and to develop community relations through comprehensive communications planning.
The successful candidate for the position will be passionate about VHF’s programs and initiatives and will become a knowledgeable champion for the organization and the communities we serve.
About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Valley Hospice Foundation Chair, the Fund Development and Communications Coordinator will create and execute a comprehensive Fund Development Plan and Communications Plan in line with Valley Hospice Foundation’s current Strategic Plan. This role will also build and strengthen relationships with the community and create sponsorship and other development opportunities.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Plan and coordinate annual peer-to-peer fundraising and awareness event – Hike for Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
- Build and strengthen relationships with the business community and create sponsorship and other development opportunities.
- Coordinate and grow the monthly giving program to increase predictable funding.
- Develop and coordinate an Annual Giving Program that includes tribute giving, direct mail appeals/newsletters and events.
- Build and implement strategies to promote Planned Giving.
- Develop and lead a robust donor relations strategy.
- Create content and coordinate digital assets – social media and website.
- Develop public awareness opportunities, attend networking events and speaking engagement to share information.
- Develop promotional print and digital materials for sponsorships, programs, and fundraising
- Work closely with the VHF’s Board on new funding and PR opportunities.
- Liaise with Nova Scotia Health for program public relations related activities.
- Assist with development of Fundraising and Communication policies and procedures.
- Coordinate community research projects for assessing needs and program development.
About You:
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Post-secondary education or comparable experience with non-profit fundraising, public relations/communications, marketing or related field.
- Proven track record of successful event management, fundraising, marketing, or other similar related activity.
- Working knowledge of direct mail, monthly giving, third party, major gifts, and donor communications, their trends and best practices.
- Knowledge and experience with Planned Giving is an asset.
- Solid understanding of ethical fundraising principles and practices, donor privacy and confidentiality.
- Proficient with technologically and comfortable using donor management system/database, communication software, Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Passionate about the Valley Hospice Foundation’s mission and excited about championing it.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulates impact stories.
- Strong interpersonal and motivational skills and ability to work effectively with board members, staff and volunteer committees.
- Empathy for others (dealing with such private matters as wealth/death, loss, etc.).
